High Expected Growth of Health Care Industry

According to a report by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the overall labor market in the United States is projected to increase by 11.5 million from 2016-26.

Of the total 11.5 million increased employment, healthcare support occupations, healthcare practitioners, and technical occupations are expected to contribute about one-fifth of the total new jobs.

“Employment in the health care and social assistance sector is projected to add nearly 4.0 million jobs by 2026, about one-third of all new jobs. The share of health care and social assistance employment is projected to increase from 12.2 percent in 2016 to 13.8 percent in 2026, becoming the largest major sector in 2026.” –BLS

This large increase in health care employment can be related to the increase in life expectancy and the aging of the baby boomer generation causing a direct increase in demand for healthcare services.
